What is the Summer Work & Travel Program?
The Exchange Visitor Program is governed by U.S. Departments of State. The purpose of the Summer Work & Travel Program is to provide international students an opportunity to experience life in America through travel and temporary work for a period up to four months during their summer vacation. The primary purpose of the program is to acquaint foreign students with the culture and life of modern America and the distribution of other cultures among its inhabitants. Our students experience American culture through organized entertainment. We sponsor weekly trips to museums, monuments, and iconic destinations. Our various programs give each student an opportunity to grow socially, develop deep lifetime connections and experiences with people and places they would have otherwise never known. It is our hope that each student’s experience extends far beyond the program start and end dates.
The relationships and memories created during the program will last a lifetime!

Summer Work and Travel Sponsor Organization
J-1 Visa allows you to work in the U.S. for up to 4 months. You are also allowed an extra 30-day "grace period" after the termination date for the purposes of travel and departure. This grace period may be used for travel within the U.S. and explore the beauty of the American Continent. You cannot work during this 30-day grace period, participants can travel outside the U.S. but will not be allowed to re-enter the U.S.
The cost of the Program includes comprehensive health insurance, which includes not only coverage for medical care and hospitalization but will also cover medical evacuation (your return home in case of serious illness or accident).
Routine physicals, most dental work, and most eye care are not covered, so be sure that you have attended to these concerns before leaving home.
Some physicians may require you to pay for treatment at the time of service and file your own insurance claim with the insurance company. You will be provided with a claim form when you receive your DS-2019. If you need to file a claim for reimbursement, complete the form and send it directly to the insurance company along with the receipts. Note: All types of insurance have a deductible/co-pay. This is an amount you have to pay before the insurance will pay anything and is usually around $50-$100.
If you have questions concerning the coverage, call the free number listed on your insurance card.
Please note that this is a general information about Sponsor Organizations. Documents and/or insurance may vary from sponsor to sponsor.
Housing and Apartments
Housing is provided in 1, 2 or 3 bedroom apartments close to employees’ job sites. Most of the apartments offer a wide variety of extra amenities: access to the swimming pool, gym, game room, picnic area, business center, etc. Most of the time, the apartments are centrally located between all of the job sites in the area.
Apartments usually come with refrigerator, stove top, oven, microwave, dishwasher, washer and dryer. Some apartments have washer and drier available in the laundry room in the apartment complex. AquaSafe provides basic furniture, such as table, chairs, air mattresses, lamps for free. AquaSafe also provides dishes, silverware, cookware and some janitorial supplies. More details are provided in housing agreement.
Employees may choose their own roommates; however, there are a limited number of people that may share one apartment and all students who request to live together should arrive on the same date before the beginning of the Season. Keep in mind, living with other students you may not know is the best way of making new friends and learning other cultures. AquaSafe housing is only for company employees. Employees are required to follow AquaSafe housing policy. For more information about the housing, please contact your local recruiter.
We Provide Airport Pick Up
Your introduction to the AquaSafe Team begins at the airport. From the time you arrive at the airport your are part of our team. A team member will pick you up from Baltimore Washington International (BWI) or Dulles International (IAD) airports and transport you to your designated housing. All airport pick up service must be arranged prior to arrival with the AquaSafe Staffing Department. Airport pick up is available 8:00am to 9:00pm.
How to Get to Your Pool
Most of the swimming pools are located within walking or biking distance from the community where AquaSafe employees live. Some employees will have a bicycle that may be used as transportation to the swimming pools located further than walking distance. Employees riding bicycles are required to wear helmets at all times, as the US law prohibits riding bicycles without a helmet. To avoid situations when the bicycle is stolen, AquaSafe recommends that the bicycle is secured by the lock and chain.
Like in your home country, public transportation is available and may need to be used by employees. The best place to find routes and cost is to go to the Department of Transportation website for the state you will be traveling in.
